Em relação ao que você pensava originalmente sobre “Baixio das Bestas”, a sua percepção mudou de alguma forma diante da reação da crítica e do público, depois da estréia?
Cláudio Assis: Não. A maioria das pessoas entendeu o filme. Entendeu que era uma denúncia contra a violência que existe hoje contra a mulher. Entendeu que era uma denúncia contra a impunidade que reina no Brasil.
Um crítico na Holanda, um dos fundadores do Festival de Roterdã, me disse: “Quero te agradecer porque você me fez enxergar o quanto eu sou também filho da puta. Por alguns momentos desejei aquela garota de 15 anos que estava na tela. O filme, para mim, é bom também por isso, por me mostrar que eu tenho um lado podre”.
É lógico que há pessoas que não gostam do filme. E é bom que seja assim. Não faço filme para agradar todo mundo. Não sei fazer um filme para que todo mundo goste. Quem faz é a Rede Globo. E mesmo assim tem quem não goste.
Se tratando de "Baixio das bestas", acredito que n�o seja pertinente dizer "se gostou ou n�o gostou" ...o filme � um retrato da nossa realidade social (e que infeliz realidade)...eu diria que n�o gosto dessa realidade, mas � mais que necess�rio sairmos de nossos "mundinhos" e olharmos pra fora. Sei que o cinema n�o tem apenas essa funcionalidade, mas declaro meu apoio a filmes que n�o se fecham em si mesmos, que ultrapassam os limites das salas escuras e conseguem de alguma forma tirar o espectador da in�rcia.
O pior de tudo, para mim, n�o foram as cenas extremamente chocantes do filme, mas foi ver que a plat�ia encontra disposi�o para rir do que n�o est� aberto para as risadas...me incomoda muito ver que as pessoas n�o possuem senso cr�tico diantes dos males que assolam (odiei usar essa palavra, mas foi a �nica que me veio)nosso territ�rio.
Mas se fato for necess�rio dizer se "Baixio das Bestas" � bom ou ruim...a resposta � ele � chocante.
De minha parte, achei o filme de uma crueza impressionante: cru e cruel.
Todos os personagens são "feios, sujos e malvados" e não há lugar para redenção. Voltei para casa de baixo astral.
Também voltei para casa deprimida, com a triste certeza de uma realidade sórdida e miserável.
